Open Letter to:
Governor Kathy Hochul
NYS Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie
NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins
All New York State Assembly Members
All New York State Senators
Dear NYS Political Leaders:
We are requesting the support of each of you for immediate passage of Assembly Bill A4574 and Senate Bill S1297 repealing the NYS Stock Transfer Tax Rebate. Common sense, compassion and fiscal responsibility demand nothing less.
News outlets reported that State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli co-authored, with Citizen Budget Commission President Andrew Rein, an op-ed in Crain's New York Business. In it they stated, "Major looming budget gaps will have serious consequences for New Yorkers, unless action is taken now." As a consequence, their knee-jerk remedy is to seek drastic cuts in city services and curb new spending. What a selfish, draconian solution for solving a shortfall in tax revenues needed to protect and advance the safety and well-being of millions of New Yorkers and out of state visitors.
Carl Ginsburg, journalist and former producer of CBS Evening News pointed out that, "One in four NYC children lives in poverty. One in ten NYC public school children spend part of the school year living in a homeless shelter. A stock transfer tax can raise our kids out of poverty."
Repeal of the Stock Transfer Tax Rebate would go a long way to help solve any shortfall of tax revenues in a responsible manner. This would be of enormous benefit to the state and all of its cities and towns.
This
4-page flyer scheduled for mass statewide distribution explains our position on the need for repeal of the stock transfer tax rebate. The website GreedvsNeed.org will alert voters to the issue and aims to hold irresponsible legislators, government officials and their corporate allies who are against its passage accountable.
After reviewing the flyer and website, please email the campaign whether you are for or against repeal of the Stock Transfer Tax Rebate. We hope you are on board to repeal it. If we do not hear from you by Friday, March 29, 2024, we will categorize you as "For Greed" and respond accordingly.
